Why does New Vision Laser Centers-Centre for Sight represent the Best LASIK Mumbai?

There are several reasons:

a) Our Clinical Director, Dr. Rupal Shah, is one of the most experienced laser refractive surgeons in the world. She has personally treated more than 30000 eyes, and has done pioneering work in the field of laser refractive surgery. She has published several book chapters and articles in the most reputed scientific journals, and she is invited as a speaker all over the world.

b) We are the oldest laser center in Mumbai, having commenced operations way back in 1994. Our track record shows that we always have the best LASIK technology available.

c) We are amongst the select few centers which offer NO Blade LASIK in Mumbai, and one of only two centers which offer the latest, most advanced technology of ReLEx smile. In fact, the pioneering work on ReLEx smile was done at New Vision Laser Centers, much before its widespread adoption in the rest of the world.

d) Our prices are reasonable and all inclusive. Even though we offer the Best LASIK Mumbai, we do not charge the highest prices.

e) ReLEx smile is the Best LASIK Mumbai technology. It offers a flapless, painless, bladeless process, which is not otherwise available at all.

f) Unlike all other eye doctors, we specialize in LASIK. Our speciality gives us the experience, technology and focus which allows us to provide the Best LASIK Mumbai.

The post Is “All Laser” LASIK the same as Bladefree LASIK? first appeared in New Vision Laser Centers - LASIK India. Bladeless LASIK India

Is “All Laser” LASIK the same as Bladefree LASIK?

Maybe. Contrary to popular belief, LASIK is not an “all-laser” procedure, due to the use of the microkeratome blade. Bladeless is one of the few laser technologies available today for use in the first step of the LASIK procedure and only LASIK procedures that use the femtosecond laser can be considered “all-laser.”

Your doctor can explain the difference between other procedures that may be advertised as “all laser,” such as LASEK, PRK or epi-LASIK or ASA– all of which are surface ablation procedures. Because they are performed without creating a corneal flap, these procedures generally require longer healing time and frequently involve more discomfort and a delay in visual recovery.

So don’t get fooled by terms like epilasik or bladeless laser. These are not the same as bladefree lasik.

Bladefree LASIK is offered at New Vision centers in Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Vadodara.

Bladeless LASIK India

Is Bladeless LASIK more expensive than LASIK with Blade?

Yes. Most patients agree that the added level of safety and better vision offered by Bladeless LASIK is worth the incremental cost. New Vision Laser Centers are leaders in the field of refractive laser surgery inIndia, and we continually evaluate advances in technology. We have determined that Bladeless LASIK is the most sophisticated and accurate system available today for flap creation and have invested in the technology to sustain our superiority in patient care.

Why is Bladeless LASIK more expensive? Well, for starters, two lasers are required in the procedure- a femtosecond laser and an excimer laser. This makes the capital cost double. In addition, all femtosecond lasers, without exception, require the doctor or clinic to pay a “license fee or treatment fee” per eye to the laser manufacturer. This fee alone is sometimes worth the cost of LASIK with Blade. Third is the additional maintenance fee to be paid for two lasers instead of one.

Given all of these costs, Bladeless LASIK can sometimes cost double or triple the cost of LASIK with Blade.

However, in India, and especially at New Vision Laser Centers-Centre for Sight, we have made all efforts to keep the cost of Bladeless LASIK as low as possible. Bladeless LASIK at our centers in Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara or Hyderabad can cost about 1/4th the cost of the same procedure in Europe or America, and half of what it costs in Thailand or Malaysia.

More patients achieve 20/20 or better vision with Bladeless LASIK.

Patients stating a preference preferred the post-operative vision of their femtosecond-treated eye 3-to-1 over their blade-treated eye.

Bladeless LASIK creates fewer high- and low-order aberrations, associated with night glare and halos.

Patients treated with Bladeless LASIK have a reduced incidence of post-operative dry eye symptoms.

Bladeless patients required fewer enhancement procedures following LASIK.

The precision of the femtosecond flap significantly reduces the incidence of post-operative induced astigmatism as compared to a microkeratome-created flap.

A: New science reveals that the corneal flap has been widely underestimated for its affect on the visual outcome of LASIK. If the corneal surface is left with fine aberrations after the cut with the handheld blade, the precision of the excimer tissue ablation, the second step, can be compromised. Eliminating tiny irregularities on the corneal surface, as is possible with Bladeless LASIK, gives a boost to the vision after the procedure.

Surgeons have found statistically and clinically significant differences in the vision patients achieve when the femtosecond laser is used for corneal flap creation. Bladeless LASIK goes beyond simply creating a safer, planar flap to preparing an optimal corneal architecture below the flap, providing for superior visual outcomes, even among patients who undergo wavefront guided procedures. The end result: fewer complications and better vision.

Bladeless LASIK is offered by NVLC-CFS at Mumbai, Hyderabad, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Surat.

Bladeless LASIK is noted for improving the safety and accuracy of LASIK by replacing oscillating microkeratome blade historically used in the first step. Today, Bladeless LASIK is the technology of choice amongst leading LASIK surgeons and ophthalmic teaching institutions worldwide. The VisuMax Laser is the latest generation of a class of lasers known as femtosecond lasers, including the Intralase and FemtoLDV lasers.

Bladeless LASIK India

When laser vision correction was performed without the corneal flap, as in PRK (photorefractive keratotomy), patients experienced considerable discomfort and a delay in visual acuity. So in LASIK, the surgeon first creates a micro-thin flap of corneal tissue and folds it back to prepare the eye for the second step, where an excimer laser is used on the inner cornea to correct vision. This two-step process allows for rapid visual recovery with little or no patient discomfort, and is credited with the popularity and growth of the procedure worldwide.

The differences between different LASIK procedures is on the first step of this two step procedure-how the flap is created. In Conventional LASIK, an instrument known as a microkeratome, which is a hand held, high speed oscillating blade, is used to create the micro thin flap. Most of the complications in the LASIK procedure, have their origins in the use of this hand held blade instrument. Bladeless LASIK, on the other hand, uses a laser known as a femtosecond laser, to create the micro-thin flap. This is also called intralase lasik or i-lasik or femto-LASIK. In Bladeless LASIK, the entire process is automated, and is much safer, more precise and smoother overall for the patient.

Bladeless LASIK is offered by New Vision Laser Centers in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Surat, besides other centers of Centre for Sight including Delhi, Meerut and Indore.

Bladeless LASIK India

Laser Eye Correction Risks

Following are the Laser Eye Correction Risks. Please note that most of these outcomes are very rare, and in general, most laser eye correction patients do extremely well, and are off to work on th very next day with perfect outcomes.

a) Procedure may not be completed on the same day-generally with bladeless lasik or ReLEx smile, this is unlikely-and may need to be postponed by a few weeks.

b) Undercorrection or overcorrection, resulting in some number being left behind. Generally speaking, we offer a free enhancement procedure to take care of this. Our current enhancement rates are 1-2%. ReLEx smile enhancement rates are about 0.2%.

c) Post-operative infection. Extremely rare if proper care is taken

d) Excessive Corneal thinning. We will not treat patients whose corneas are already too thin. But in some cases, very rarely, excessive thinning can happen despite our best efforts.

e) Night Vision DIsturbances, like glare and haloes at night. Generally, with the best profiles like aspheric lasik or wavefront customized LASIK this is not likely.

f) Another Laser Eye Correction Risk is an eye infection. An eye infection can have disastrous consequences if not treated properly. This is why we advise antibiotic drops prior to the procedure, and after the procedure, and follow the strictest infection control protocols during surgery. Our infection rate is about 1 in 5000.

g) Flap complications-Only likely with LASIK and not with Bladeless LASIK or ReLEx smile.
